LAVALLETTE, N.J. (PIX11) — One woman is dead and seven others were injured after an alleged errant parking attempt outside of a Lavallette restaurant, according to police. Officials said a 93-year-old woman was attempting to park outside of Meg's Grill on Grand Central Avenue at around 11:15 a.m. on Saturday when she accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal. Her vehicle then moved quickly toward the restaurant's outdoor dining area and straight into the building, police said. Seven patrons were injured to varying degrees, including a 56-year-old woman who died as a result.

The restaurant said it would be closed Sunday and Monday "out of an observance of compassion for [the] staff and those affected," a statement on social media read.
