1 pedestrian killed, 1 seriously injured after being struck on N.J. highway, police say

One pedestrian was killed and another was seriously injured after a pickup truck struck them both Monday morning as they tried to cross Route 34 in Old Bridge, authorities said. The driver stopped after striking two people on the southbound side near the corner of Highview Terrace at 6:09 a.m., Old Bridge police said Tuesday. Emergency responders pronounced one pedestrian dead at the scene, while paramedics transported the other to an area hospital.
