16-year-old girl killed, man seriously injured in shooting at Old Town Manassas First Friday event

MANASSAS, Va. (DC News Now) -- A teenage girl has died, and a 21-year-old man was seriously injured after a shooting broke out Friday night in Old Town Manassas during an outdoor block party, according to authorities. The Manassas City Police Department confirmed the deadly shooting took place at around 9:30 p.m. near the Manassas Railroad Depot during "First Friday," an event that transforms the town's streets into a family-friendly block party with live music, activities and more on the first Friday of every month from February through November. During a press briefing Friday night, Chief of Police Doug Keen referred to the shooting as an "active shooter incident" that left a 16-year-old girl dead and a 21-year-old man hospitalized in serious but non-life-threatening condition. Keen noted that about 10,000 people were attending the outdoor block party at the time of the shooting. As of Friday night, police had not taken a suspect into custody.
