18-year-old was shot and killed on North Charleston CARTA bus

NORTH CHARLESTON — A teenager has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting inside a CARTA public transportation bus on the morning of Aug. Preston Fabers, 18, of Charleston, died on the scene after being shot inside the vehicle at a bus stop across the street from Military Magnet Academy , according to the Charleston County Coroner’s Office. Police had responded to the CARTA stop around 10:40 a.m. and cordoned off the 2900 block of Carner Avenue near the Rivers Avenue intersection. The suspect fled after the shooting, according to officials. The school across the street was placed on secure status protocol with students locked inside for a few hours as North Charleston police investigated and began a manhunt for the person who shot Fabers.
