19-year-old man shot during disturbance near IU Bloomington campus early Sunday morning, police say

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Police say a 19-year-old was shot near the IU campus early Sunday morning. According to the Bloomington Police Department, the shooting happened in the 300 block of East Kirkwood Avenue near North Lincoln Street, which is just a few blocks west of the IU Sample Gates and several popular bars along Kirkwood Avenue. IU Police and Public Safety sent out alerts around 1:20 a.m. warning of a dangerous situation and another around 1:40 a.m. warning of a possible shooting incident. Later, those alerts said there was no ongoing threat but to still avoid the area as police investigate. Bloomington police now say it started around 1:07 a.m. when officers responded to the scene after multiple 911 calls about a shooting.
