The pilot and passenger of a small plane operated by a Chugiak air taxi service died in a crash Tuesday near a moose camp in Western Alaska on Tuesday, authorities say. The Cessna 185 Skywagon crashed about 30 miles southeast of Aniak, according to information from the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board. The plane crashed after taking off from moose camp, Alaska State Troopers said in an online statement Wednesday. Killed were 34-year-old pilot Nicholas Peters, of Eagle River, and 50-year-old Missouri resident John “Jack” Ervin. The flight was operated by Nick’s Air Service, an air taxi service based out of Birchwood Airport in Chugiak, according to the FAA.
