2 Florida deputies shot during Hernando County narcotics warrant; suspect in custody

Two Hernando County Sheriff’s Office deputies were shot while a SWAT team served a narcotics search warrant at a Spring Hill home early Thursday, Sheriff Alan Inhuis said. The shooting happened about 5 a.m. at a home near Coral Street and Newton Road in the Berkeley Manor subdivision, according to the sheriff. Inhuis said deputies were serving a warrant connected to a cocaine investigation that had been underway for at least several months. The SWAT team arrived with marked vehicles, emergency lights and announcements over a public-address system, he said. As deputies approached the front door, the team used a flashbang device, and the suspect began firing through the door, Inhuis said.
