2 killed, 9 wounded in NJ shooting at a large illegal gathering: Officials

TRENTON, N.J. (PIX11) — Two people were killed and nine others were wounded in a shooting early Sunday during an unauthorized gathering of at least 200 people in Trenton, New Jersey, officials said. Trenton police officers said they received a 911 call reporting multiple shots fired on Locust Street around 12:25 a.m. Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora said the gunfire erupted during an unauthorized event in a residential neighborhood. “A gathering of that magnitude creates serious public-safety concerns for the people attending it, the surrounding neighborhood, and the police officers and first responders who must respond when something goes wrong,” he said in a statement released on Facebook on Sunday. Nine victims were taken to a local hospital, and two people were pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. Police said the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force is investigating what led to the shooting.
