Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson wants a new start at the police department — while detectives are still looking for suspects and asking the public for information about the weekend's shooting at the Bite of Seattle that killed three people and left five injured. Wilson asked for now-former Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes' resignation Wednesday, but said nothing publicly for hours. Rumors began swirling Wednesday that Barnes had been asked to resign or be fired. In an interview with KUOW after she made Barnes' departure official, Wilson said the decision was mutual; she did ask him to resign and noted communication issues within SPD and between SPD and her office. She wouldn't say why, specifically, she made the move to get rid of Barnes, even when pressed several times and asked whether the lack of specificity was because of potential litigation.
