46 measles cases reported across KY in latest outbreak update

Kentucky is now reporting 46 cases in the summer measles outbreak that began in July as of Sept. 17, according to new data released by the state Department of Public Health. In a statement, health cabinet spokesperson Beth Fisher confirmed Trimble and Lewis counties are the latest to report cases as of Sept. Christian and Trigg counties have also seen additional cases. The reports have been "primarily in close-knit communities with low vaccination coverage, and health officials believe there are likely more cases than have been reported," she said. "Several cases have been linked to out-of-state travel in areas experiencing measles outbreaks," Fisher said. "All communities are encouraged to maintain high vaccination rates to prevent outbreaks of measles and other highly contagious diseases." Health officials have said Kentucky is experiencing the largest measles outbreak reported in the commonwealth since 1991.
