5 must-see games for L-L League football in Week 5

As the Lancaster-Lebanon League football season hits its midpoint, PennLive will continue to highlight five must-see games each week. Attached are Friday’s most appealing affairs. Cedar Crest at Manheim Township, 7 p.m. Cedar Crest, Manheim Township and Wilson are the clear favorites to win Section 1. With Wilson’s 17-0 victory over Manheim Township last week, this game became even more important than it was before. The Blue Streaks need a victory not only for program win No. 500 but to stay in the hunt for a Section 1 title. Their defense must continue its strong start to Section 1 play and a bounce-back performance from the offense is needed. Cedar Crest needs a win as well after dispatching Hempfield 28-19 last week to move to 4-0. A victory essentially makes next week’s matchup with Wilson for the Section 1 title. The picture gets murky for the Falcons with a loss to the Blue Streaks. Schuylkill Valley at Berks Catholic, 7 p.m. Berks Catholic struggled with its non-league schedule, turning in a 0-3 performance. However, the Saints, after a 38-7 win over Hamburg in Week 4, have momentum to make noise in Section 5. Schuylkill Valley presents a huge challenge for the Saints chances in Section 5 as the Panthers are explosive on offense and a solid defense. The latter improved to 3-1 with a 45-34 victory over Columbia last week.
