5 must-see SCAC football games in Week 5

We’ve reached the midway point of the high school football regular season in Pennsylvania, but teams in the South Central Athletic Conference are only just digging into divisional play. From teams trying to preserve unblemished records, looking to rebound after losses to open league play and upstart crews looking to maintain momentum, there’s plenty to look out for in Week 5. Here are five marquee matchups to watch around the SCAC, formerly known as the YAIAA. All games are at 7 p.m. Friday. Did anyone have Susquehannock’s 4-0 start on their bingo card? The Warriors have achieved that record for the first time in 21 years and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down. Last week’s 17-16 comeback over Bermudian Springs off the heroics of Nikolai Graham was proof of that gumption. But at 3-1, Dover is no slouch. Max Schiffhauer, Mimi Valenti, Ayden Ford, Gage Malehorn, Lincoln Decker and Ashton Swartz have combined for nine interceptions already. Eli Smyser leads the team with 37 tackles and Malehorn has logged 33 tackles. That defensive unit has contained opponents to just 37 points over the last three weeks. It was expected for Spring Grove (3-1), great as its run game and defense has been, to be bundled by a scorching-hot Central York contingent. Friday presents the opportunity for the Rockets to right the ship in a non-league dust-up against Hempfield.
