51-year-old charged in shooting death of suspected burglar in Birmingham neighborhood

A 51-year-old man is charged in the Wednesday shooting death of a suspected burglar in a Birmingham neighborhood. Derrick Earl Hunt is charged with murder in the killing of 41-year-old Andrew Hamilton. The shooting happened at 10:30 a.m. in the 900 block 47th Place North. Witnesses reported hearing at least eight shots fired. Hamilton was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:48 a.m.
