75-year-old killed after fall in Monongahela National Forest

PENDLETON COUNTY, W.Va. (WBOY) — A 75-year-old man died on Saturday after a suspected fall in the Monongahela National Forest. According to the Pendleton County Office of Emergency Management facebook page, crews were dispatched to the forest on Saturday afternoon after receiving a report of, "a climber having fallen from a rock feature on Smoke Hole Road." The Pendleton County Emergency Rescue Squad, Upper Tract Volunteer Fire Department and members of the West Virginia State Police all responded to the scene, where they discovered the victim, a 75-year-old man from Virginia, dead due to suspected injuries caused by a 50 foot fall. Emergency crews offered their condolences to the man's family and climbing partners. No other information about the incident has been released at this time.
