Former Baylor coach Art Briles, who was fired in 2016 amid a highly publicized sexual scandal at the school, revealed in a wide-ranging interview that in 2014 he agreed to be the coach at Texas. Briles told On3 on Wednesday he decided to return to Baylor after the Bears’ Fiesta Bowl loss to UCF. Texas officials, per the report, had plans to fly the coach to Phoenix after the game to finalize the contract. “I mean I was there,” Briles told On3 . “If we’d won our bowl game, I would have left Baylor 100 percent. It was done for me because I’m a (state of) Texas guy and (my son) Kendal played there. So it made sense.” According to the report, Texas offered Briles a six-year deal to replace Mack Brown, who had resigned after the 2013 season.
