8-year-old awake after baseball strike caused cardiac arrest at practice in Henefer

An 8-year-old boy who went into cardiac arrest after being struck in the chest by a baseball during practice Tuesday night is awake, according to the North Summit Fire District. Battalion Chief Tyler Rowser said he spoke with the boy’s father Wednesday. Rowser did not have additional details about the child’s condition. The boy was airlifted to Primary Children’s Hospital after he was hit directly in the chest by a baseball during a team practice in Henefer. MORE: Coach's CPR helps save child after baseball injury at practice “The coach recognized that something was wrong immediately,” Rowser said. “He got to the child, noticed he wasn’t breathing and immediately activated the 911 system.” The coach began CPR while emergency crews were on their way.
