9 injured in overnight shooting on West Gate City Boulevard in Greensboro | 2 people in custody: Police

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Nine people, including four juveniles, were injured after a shooting at The Royal Banquet Hall on West Gate City Boulevard early Sunday morning, according to Greensboro police. Police said several people called 911 dispatchers around 1:50 a.m. to report someone was shooting and that multiple victims had been shot inside the business, in the 3800 block of West Gate City Boulevard. While officers were on scene, the department was notified that multiple gunshot victims had arrived at local hospitals. None of the nine victims were transported to hospitals by Guilford County EMS — all arrived by private vehicle, police said. EMS treated one person for a minor graze injury at the scene, but that person was not taken to a hospital for further treatment.

At a news conference Sunday afternoon, City Manager Nathaniel "Trey" Davis addressed the shooting. "Last night's shooting has shaken our community, and our thoughts are with those who were injured, their families, and everyone affected by the incident that occurred," Davis said, commending dispatchers, first responders and investigators. "The safety of our residents remains our highest priority." Police Chief Kamran Afzal called the shooting an act of "senseless gun violence" and said the department is working to identify those responsible. "We are committed to identifying those responsible and holding them accountable. Arriving officers took two men into custody in the area of the shooting.
