A man charged in the wrong-way crash on Interstate 270 that killed a mother and her daughter in late August is an illegal immigrant, according to officials. The crash took place on August 29, when Musammat Shamima Begum, 46, and Areebah Jahin, 23, were driving southbound on 270. According to Maryland State Police, a Ford Mustang, piloted by a man suspected of drunk driving, drove north in the southbound lanes and struck their vehicle, killing both Begum and Jahin. Now, officials are saying the driver of that Mustang is an illegal immigrant. The Department of Homeland Security said US Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged a detainer asking Maryland officials not to release the driver, identified as Jose Antonio Caballero-Nolasco.
