The crash, which occurred on the Campanas de Cima route, a mountainous area in Fogo Island, occurred on Saturday and involved a passenger bus. Sun reported the bus was transporting schoolchildren from Curral Grande and Ponta Verde on a field trip. The outlet also said another 19 people were taken to the hospital. "I am heartbroken. This is an irreparable loss, a part of the future that is being said goodbye to: the overwhelming majority of the victims are young and teenagers," the president of Cape Verde, José Maria Pereira Neves, said in a translated statement .
