Attempted traffic stop leads to manhunt in Suffolk early Sunday

SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY, Va. — A man faces charges after an attempted traffic stop led to a manhunt in Suffolk early Sunday. According to a news release from the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, a Southampton deputy attempted to stop a vehicle for reckless driving on Armory Drive at about 1 a.m. However, the press release said, the driver refused to stop and fled into Suffolk. On Holland Road in Suffolk, the driver allegedly struck a sheriff’s office vehicle and came to rest in a field, where he got out of the car and ran. Law enforcement from Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, Suffolk Police Department and Virginia State Police as well as Franklin Fire and Rescue used police dogs and drones for the manhunt, eventually finding evidence that led to the identification of the subject.
