Australia news live: NSW will not implement recommendation of long-awaited hate speech report; Victorian doctors to go on strike
Independent review of Bureau of Meteorology announced The chief executive of the Bureau of Meteorology has commissioned an independent review of the agency, to “ensure it delivers value to Australians in a rapidly changing environment”. In November, the BoM publicly apologised for how it handled its new website launch – the first redesign in a decade. Guardian Australia revealed that the full cost of the website overhaul was approximately $86m, which came after years of delays and millions in cost blowouts. That followed an attempted rebrand in 2022, and allegations of a toxic workplace culture. The review, which will inform the BoM’s next strategic plan, to come into effect in late 2027, will assess the “effectiveness of public communications and responsiveness to stakeholder needs”.
