Ax-wielding assault suspect shot, killed by officers near Meridian and Elliot roads in Mesa

Mesa police were involved in a deadly shooting of a man armed with an ax on Monday evening. The incident took place near Meridian and Elliot roads.The incident took place near Meridian and Elliot roads around 7 p.m.Police confirm they were first called to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls about a man assaulting his ex-wife and children with a shovel outside of a home. There were also reports that the man was damaging vehicles in the area with a shovel, and that he may also have been armed with an ax and a firearm. Multiple neighbors reportedly attempted to intervene in the altercation before officers arrived. Police say the man was armed with an ax when an officer gave verbal commands to the man.
