Birmingham PD investigating after man fatally shot during argument

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - The Birmingham Police Department is investigating after they say a man was shot and killed inside of a home early Tuesday evening. Police were called to the 5900 block of Jesse Owens Avenue in the Roosevelt neighborhood around 6:20 p.m. Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene. Investigators said the victim and another man got into a verbal argument inside of the home, which then led to shots being fired. Police said Tuesday evening it was unclear the relationship between the victim, homeowner and suspect.

The suspect was not in custody as of Tuesday evening. “Our hearts do go out to that victim’s family and the things that they will have to endure with this tragedy that just occurred,” said Officer De’Rell Freeman with BPD. “We can say that our detectives and officers are actively looking, we won’t stop until we find that person.” Anyone with information is urged to call BPD or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
