Bishop Carroll football flips rivalry script in stunning win over Northwest

For most of the past decade, Bishop Carroll and Wichita Northwest have settled their west-side football rivalry by seeing which offense could score last. On Friday night, the Golden Eagles turned it into a grind. Carroll piled up 12 tackles for loss, stopped Northwest twice on fourth down and survived a first-and-goal in the final minutes to pull off one of the biggest results from the Wichita area’s Week 1 high school football slate , a 14-10 upset of a Grizzlies team loaded with Division I talent and considered a Class 6A contender. Over the previous decade, Carroll and Northwest had combined to average 73 points in 12 meetings. That stretch included Northwest’s absurd 84-67 victory in the 2018 Class 5A quarterfinals.
