Boys Soccer Roundup: Abdulwahhab Alnuaimi scores hat trick, leads Chicopee to win

AMHERST — Two of the top Western Massachusetts girls volleyball teams faced off on Tuesday. No. 1 Longmeadow won 3-1 over Amherst (17-25, 25-14, 25-16, 25-20). “We didn’t have it again from the service line.” Lancers (6-0) coach Pat Curry said. “Amherst came to play from set one and we were nowhere to be found. ” Longmeadow senior libero Annie Kro agreed. “We did really well but we could have been better from the service line,” Kro said. Overall we played good and had really good communication, great hustle and a great mindset on the court [after the first set]. Longmeadow found its groove in the second, third and fourth sets. Senior middle blocker Kate Whitticom showed the Hurricanes (5-1) her play making abilities scoring off of multiple hard hitting offensive plays. Whitticom also played great defense preventing Amherst from making big time offensive attacks. The biggest key to the second set win for the Lancers was not allowing an Amherst score to stop the offensive flow. Longmeadow’s Chloe Scott faked a pass and lightly hit the ball over the net countless times leaving the Hurricanes scrambling all over the court defensively. The Lancers’ Lindsey Wiatrowski joined in the offensive attack helping switch up the tempo. She had a clutch hit to the front left court that was perfectly placed so no defenders could get to it in time.
