Brayden Kvamme just broke a 93-year-old record in Moorhead's Legion baseball program

MOORHEAD — Brayden Kvamme concluded his final high school baseball season with the Moorhead Spuds posting a .382 batting average. A strong showing by any measure. But when the American Legion season began, Kvamme turned the dial up a notch. “I was seeing the baseball very well the whole season,” Kvamme said. “I had no games where I felt like I was hitting bad and we had a pretty good high school season too.” The Moorhead Post 21 Blues finished 15-16 this summer after their season came to an end with a 6-5 loss to Alexandria in last weekend's Minnesota Division I Sub-State 12 tournament. Kvamme, however, had a campaign to remember, batting .520 to set the program’s single-season batting average record.

The all-time Moorhead Legion baseball single-season batting average record was held by Lloyd "Lottie" Kroll, who hit .507 as the team’s catcher and captain in 1933. “It’s pretty awesome,” said Kvamme, who noted he also holds Moorhead’s Junior Legion batting average record with a .484. “So now I have both of those under my belt.” Kvamme also drew 18 walks this season and racked up 16 stolen bases, which accounted for just under one-third of the team’s steals this summer according to Blues head coach Jack Naugle.
