CAIR urges Ted Cruz to denounce RNC attendee who called for shooting Democrats
The Council on American-Islamic Relations is urging U.S. Ted Cruz to denounce apparent calls for violence against Democrats made by an audience member during Cruz’s speech at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas . The remarks could be heard on livestreams of Cruz’s speech when he warned fellow Republicans about up-and-coming Democrats, including New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Abdul El-Sayed of Michigan, both of whom are practicing Muslims. “When Mamdani says he wants to seize the means of production, believe him,” Cruz said, at which point a faint voice shouted, “He should be shot.” “When Abdul El-Sayed says he has an ‘obligation’ to comply with Sharia law, believe him,” Cruz said, to the same response. Cruz then brought up the U.S. Senate nominee from Texas, saying, “When James Talarico says he wants to dismantle capitalism–” “He should be shot,” the voice can be heard shouting before Cruz finished.
