A Caledonia man accused of shooting and killing a family's dog pleaded not guilty Tuesday. Nicholas Schmidt faces a felony charge of mistreatment of animals causing death and a misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer. The charges stem from a July shooting of 2-year-old Chili, a Catahoula-mix. Chili's owners told WISN 12 News the dog got loose from their home and was outside for only about 2 minutes.
