California FAIR Plan growth slows as insurers return to wildfire areas

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — For the first time in a long time, the number of new policies with California's FAIR Plan is slowing as multiple insurance companies begin writing policies for homeowners in the state. Companies including Allstate and State Farm say they plan to write policies in California, while Mercury has already started moving homeowners off the FAIR Plan in places such as Paradise. It's a sign of good news overall for the state, but some homeowners are still waiting for relief. For the past two years, Joan Caselli-Gross has been on California's FAIR Plan after her insurance company declined to renew her policy. "We went to the FAIR Plan; I think the first year was around $8,000. Then the second year it went up to 16,000," said Caselli-Gross.
