Car crash on Lake Shore Drive today: Pedestrian hit by car, killed while trying to cross drive in Gold Coast, Chicago police say

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A sedan hit and killed a man who was trying to cross Lake Shore Drive on the city's North Side early Saturday morning, Chicago police said. Police said the crash happened in the 1500-block of North Lake Shore Drive in the Gold Coast neighborhood just before 1:15 a.m. A 23-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk near the North Avenue bridge before he crossed the drive's southbound lanes, police said. Police said he then climbed over the median and into the northbound lanes, where a blue sedan, which was heading northbound, struck him. The Chicago Fire Department treated the man, who suffered major injuries, before he was transported to Northwestern Hospital.
