CDC declares cyclosporiasis outbreak tied to iceberg lettuce over

After months of warnings that kept some shoppers away from lettuce, federal health officials say it is now safe to eat again. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has declared this summer’s cyclosporiasis outbreak, which was tied to iceberg lettuce, over. Jennifer Layden, associate dean and professor at the Bursky School of Public Health at Washington University in St. Louis, said the outbreak has eased because “they know that the product is now off the shelf, the associated or the implicated product. And then second, the cases have dramatically decreased.” The outbreak was the largest on record in the United States.
