The outbreak, tied to iceberg lettuce recalled by Taylor Farms de Mexico, led to 570 hospitalizations and two deaths. The FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the parasitic lettuce-linked outbreak that caused explosive diarrhea is over, with 12,883 lab-confirmed illnesses reported across 21 states. Cyclospora is a microscopic parasite that commonly causes watery diarrhea “with frequent and sometimes explosive bowel movements,” according to the CDC.
