Chattanooga officer shot man after police say he pointed gun at them

A 53-year-old man was shot and critically injured by a Chattanooga police officer after police said he pointed a gun at officers, and the state is investigating the incident. Shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday, Chattanooga officers responded to reports of an armed man threatening to harm himself in the 1400 block of E. 17th Street, according to press releases from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and Chattanooga Police Department.
