City of Boise considering converting Owyhee Park tennis courts to pickleball

Boise Parks and Recreation are considering converting Owyhee Park tennis courts to pickleball courts. The proposal is part of the city’s five-year plan. “That is the goal in this plan is to [create] that equitable access so everybody that wants to play has more options closer to home to be to play,” Boise Mayor Lauren Mclean said in an Aug. Citing a need for pickleball courts on the Boise Bench, the city noted the nearest tennis courts are less than one mile away, 2 minutes by car, from Shoshone Park, whereas the closest dedicated pickleball courts are over five miles away at Eagle Rock Park.
