Civil Air Patrol member helps locate wreckage of Ludlow fatal plane crash

SPRINGFIELD — School has been canceled for a second day after a serious cyberattack on the department’s computer network left educators with no email, no phones and no access to most student data or curriculum information. On Tuesday afternoon, Superintendent Sonia Dinnall said she was hopeful the city could implement enough workarounds to bring students back to class, despite being handcuffed by a lack of computer access, but at 5 p.m. she announced through social media it could not happen safely. After the cyberattack hit, a threatening message began popping up on computers across the system when people logged on, the district confirmed Tuesday, after the message was shared with the media. “Critical alert data breach and encryption notice. Your organization is in danger extracted sensitive data and encrypted your critical files (sic). This situation demands immediate attention from your leadership team,” the message reads.
