CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County Jail is under scrutiny after the county's medical examiner ruled an inmate's death a homicide on Thursday. In the newly released report, the medical examiner's office cited medical neglect and uninhabitable conditions as the cause of death for 57-year-old Scott Worthy. "Mr. Worthy experienced a period of significant physical deterioration while confined in the Clayton County Jail and became unable to perform basic activities of daily living without assistance," Brian Byars, director of the medical examiner's office, stated. Worthy was taken from the jail to Grady Hospital on Aug. He told paramedics that he hadn't been able to eat, use the restroom, or stand up in four days.
