John Adams Academy Douglas County, a K-8 public charter school opening in Sterling Ranch, Colorado this fall, is partnering with Campus Guardian Angel, a Texas-based company that says its drones can be remotely flown during an active threat to locate, distract and slow down an attacker. The company announced the partnership in July and said the system is planned for installation at the end of August. Campus Guardian Angel says the drones are stationed on campus and designed to deploy within seconds of a verified threat.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that it has had one initial meeting with Campus Guardian Angel and has more meetings planned. “While this technology is new to us, we are committed to ensuring our deputies are fully prepared,” the sheriff’s office said.
