Community reacts after man killed during altercation with FDLE agent in southwest Miami-Dade

During a Miami-Dade County budget meeting, Susan J. Rubio Rivera told commissioners on Thursday about how access to therapy had helped an 8-year-old boy who was raped and a 12-year-old girl who was also a crime victim. Rubio Rivera, who lives in southern Miami-Dade, said therapy helped the boy to understand that what happened was not his fault and healing was possible. It also helped the girl to get support as she faced her abuser in court and testified. Rubio Rivera, the executive director of Homestead-based nonprofit Mujeres Unidas En Justicia Educacion Y Reforma, or MUJER, said the organization has been helping victims like them for about 21 years. “These are not just statistics.
