The NFL season is starting up this week, and one could imagine this is the week, of all weeks out of the year, a former player would start to feel that yearning to compete one more time, to hit and be hit, to garner a little more glory. In John Moffitt’s case, you would be wrong. “Not this time of year,” Moffitt said. “Because training camp, it’s hot still. I tend to miss it every now and then in the fall, on a cool, crisp day and I’m like, ‘Oh, man, I’d play some football today,’ but in general I felt like I got my fill of football. I retired when I was 27, I have a real love-hate relationship with football, I think most offensive linemen do. I got really burned out.” Moffitt, from Guilford, played at Notre Dame-West Haven, was an All-American at Wisconsin and played in the NFL with the Broncos, Seahawks and Eagles between 2011 and 2015.
