EF-3 tornado that hit Appleton area is fourth ‘severe’ level tornado in Wisconsin this year

Before this year, last time an EF-3 touched down in Wisconsin was 2021 The EF-3 tornado that touched down in the Appleton area on Monday was the fourth “severe” level tornado that has hit Wisconsin so far this year. More than 1,500 tornadoes have touched down in Wisconsin from 1950 to 2025. Amanda Latham, a climate outreach specialist with the Wisconsin State Climatology Office, said EF-3 level or stronger tornadoes are “relatively uncommon” in the state. Before this year, Wisconsin hadn’t seen an EF-3 tornado since 2021 .
