Fight between high school football coaches leads to homecoming game cancellation

OBERLIN, La. ( KPLC /Gray News) - A reported fight broke out at a Louisiana high school football game Friday night that ended with the game being canceled. Authorities said Oberlin Tigers head coach Robert Etheridge got into an argument on the sideline before halftime with assistant coach Jaden Brasseaux. They went into the locker room for halftime, but the altercation continued with the two exchanging punches and Etheridge flipping a desk over, Oberlin Chief of Police Grady Haynes said. The Oberlin Tigers were taking on the Centerville Bulldogs in a homecoming matchup, but the game was called with Centerville winning 36-6. Allen Parish Superintendent Brad Soileau said there was no excuse for what occurred. “I’d like to apologize to the people of Oberlin that this happened, and to the visiting team that this took place,” he said in a statement. “There’s no excuse for it.
