BETHESDA, Md. — A fire potentially caused by a lithium-ion battery broke out in Bethesda on Monday, leading to the death of a family dog. A home in the 5900 block of Sonoma Road caught fire around 11:40 a.m., according to Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service Pete Piringer. A neighbor called for help after seeing the smoke and fire. Firefighters saw flames on the first floor when they arrived. The fire was potentially caused by lithium-ion batteries: an electric scooter and a tennis ball server were both powered and plugged in at the time of the fire, according to MCFRS.
