Former deputy charged in Rolin Hill beating death wants trial delay

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) -- The attorney for one of three former Virginia Beach Sheriff's deputies charged with the beating death of an inmate while in custody wants more time before his trial. Eric Baptiste is charged with second degree murder and assault following the death of Rolin Hill. In June of 2024, Hill was arrested at a 7-Eleven for trespassing and later taken to Virginia Beach jail in a restraint device. Defense attorney Brian Latuga told Judge Jack Doyle Monday he needs to see more video connected to the incident, including a 15-20 minute period before Hill was taken to the ground at the 7-Eleven. Doyle did grant Latuga access to Hill's psychiatric and medical records, and Latuga said they will be reviewed by several experts.
