Four Climbers Dead, Including Nirmal Purja, After Pakistan Avalanche

The famed mountaineer and an American woman were among those killed on Broad Peak. The fate of six other climbers was still unknown. Four people who were climbing Broad Peak in Pakistan when an avalanche struck on Thursday have been confirmed dead, including Nirmal Purja, a well-known British-Nepali mountaineer. Purja’s body was found on Saturday, Mr. Purja’s expedition company, Elite Exped, said in a statement. “It is with profound sadness and immense heartbreak that we confirm that Nirmal ‘Nimsdai’ Purja tragically lost his life following the avalanche on Broad Peak,” the statement read.
