From Passive to Active Reading: Student Engagement in the Age of AI

New Pearson research analyzing nearly 80 million interactions from approximately 400,000 higher education students offers an encouraging perspective. Students who used AI study tools intentionally designed around learning science were significantly more likely to engage in active reading behaviors , including highlighting, note-taking, asking questions, and practicing retrieval.
