GBI: Man killed in shootout with Rome police officer during traffic stop

(Atlanta News First) — A man was killed in a shootout with a Rome police officer Friday, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Around noon, the officer conducted a traffic stop on a pickup truck at a gas station in the 200 block of South Broad Street SW. The driver, 61-year-old Jeron Bruce Bradford of Rome, “immediately exited the truck and confronted the officer,” according to the GBI. The officer reportedly gave verbal commands to Bradford, which he refused to obey.
