The donkey, named HeeHaw, was raised in the house and became a part of the Polk County family. He went to petting zoos and, his owners said, was friendly with strangers. The shooting occurred after the officers told the family they first tried to tase and subdue HeeHaw.

On Monday, the city of Cedartown offered more details in a new statement: The Cedartown Police Department is aware that a city police officer shot and killed a donkey in the early hours of Sunday morning.
