Georgia officer shot, killed; Suspect later found dead after GBI issues statewide alert
UPDATE: Just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the GBI announced they have located the suspect, 23-year-old Jimmie Lee Steverson. A tweet from the GBI says On September 2, 2026, at about 11:39 a.m., the Anderson County SO stopped a car in Anderson, SC. Steverson was a passenger. Steverson was found with an injury from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound & later died. EARLIER: A Georgia police officer has been shot and killed, and authorities are warning the public that the man they say is responsible is armed and dangerous.
