Grandmother, mother charged with murder after malnourished 16-year-old boy found dead

A New York City grandmother and mother were charged with murder four months after a 16-year-old boy died from severe malnutrition, according to authorities. The New York Police Department on Thursday said Denise Jarvis, 62, and Geneva Jarvis, 36, were arrested in connection with the March death of Adonis Jarvis. Police said officers responded to Lincoln Hospital in the Bronx on March 19 after receiving a report of a "suspicious death." Investigators determined Adonis had been severely malnourished, with the city's Office of Chief Medical Examiner later ruling his death a homicide. A law enforcement source told PEOPLE the teenager weighed about 60 pounds at the time of his death. Citing the unnamed source, PEOPLE reported that Adonis was on the autism spectrum.
