Hilo man, 76, shot to death near park, Hawaii island police say

Tuesday, September 15, 2026 84° Today's Paper Today • Last updated 6:34 p.m. Hawaii island police have opened a homicide investigation after a 76-year-old man was found dead from a gunshot wound near a Hilo park Monday morning. The victim was identified today as Donald Lawrence Yukitomo of Hilo, police said. According to the Hawaii Police Department, officers responded to a call shortly after 7 a.m. Monday for an unresponsive man, and found the body near a fence by Kuawa Ballields on Kuawa Street.
